As of Fall 2009 standings, Delta Tau Delta:

--- is ranked 7th out of the 26 UF fraternities with an average GPA of 3.30

--- has a higher average GPA than the All University Men's Average and All Fraternity Average.

--- won an award for academic excellence at our Southern Division Conference.

Delt is proud of the 12 brothers who made the Dean's List with 4.0 GPAs last semester (S'10).

The majority of our brotherhood are Kershner Scholars, we had approximately 50 last semester. Notable graduating seniors, Tom Cockriel (Fall '06) graduated with a 4.0 in Political Science and will be attending University of Pennyslvania Law School in the fall. Luis Prieto (Fall '06) will be attending Catholic University's Law School, and Dylan Kurth (Fall '06) is in graduate school at UF.

Delt has also compiled a TEST BANK full of Smokin' Notes from a variety of classes, test prep materials for various subjects (i.e. MCAT, LSAT, etc), and tests from recent semesters.  There is a brother studying in almost every major you can imagine - including engineering, business, pre-med, pre-law, etc.  Some brothers participate in study hours and effectively benefit from the multitude of brothers studying in each major subject.  Given the range of majors and large number of members in Delt, there's a good chance that a brother will either have taken or will take a class you need.

Who is eligible to be a Kershner Scholar?
Kershner Scholars must meet one of the following criteria:
  • 3.3 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale
  • Dean's list or campus equivalent
Kershner Scholar Awards are awarded by term (semester or quarter with at least 12 credits) and can be awarded multiple times. When grade information from the previous term becomes available, each chapter submits its list of brothers to be recognized.

Director of Academic Affairs Report:
I am pleased to report that the academic situation of our chapter is very good. For the Fall 2009 semester, our average GPA was a solid 3.30 and our overall cumulative GPA was 3.37. This GPA is an improvement on the previous semester and ranks us at number 7 out of all 26 fraternities. The new member GPA of the 23-man Fall 2009 pledge class was a 3.24. Overall, we currently have a group of very intelligent and highly motivated brothers. Also, I would like to report that over 40 current brothers met the 3.30 minimum GPA requirement to be acknowledged as Kershner Scholars.

However, there is always room for improvement. As Director of Academic Affairs, I am working with a very motivated executive board to continue this growth and improve our GPA even further. Recently, I have been encouraging brothers to pursue one of the several leadership academies the national fraternity has to offer. Several brothers applied for and are waiting to hear from the sailing academy in Maine and the new Native American leadership program in Montana. I have also put several brothers in contact with tutoring services of the University and the Gainesville community.
Go Gators!

Fraternally,
Chip Wight
